An Immune India!

Well Indiblogger has come up with new contest ‘An immune India’ from Dabur, and wants bloggers to write about being healthy. But as soon as I read the topic my mind ran superfast in a different direction. India is immune to what? Yes literally we are not immune to Dengue or Malaria! It still attacks us. We are not immune to obesity, cancer, heart attack, Diabetes so on and so forth. But we are more immune few things homogeneously throughout India such as

  1. Corruption
  2. Violence on Woman
  3. Attack on Self respect
  4. Attack on freedom of speech
  5. Over powering of foreign culture over Indian culture
  6. Increasing cast-ism
  7. Fake organisations
  8. Diminishing Indian Languages…

so on and on and on………..

We have built such a strong immunity to all these.

A school asks you to pay donation in cash and does not give receipt, you pay and do not argue.. we are immune to corruption. It does not touch our nerves. It never makes us get angry, or ask for a reason.

A boy is teasing a girl on the road, there are plenty of people around, but no body is bothered. Does not affect them in any way. None of my concern!

You know the auto driver has wrong meter, you do not complain, why take unnecessary risk?

The candidates know that it was a fake interview, conducted just for the sake of rules and regulations, but nobody will complain! Not affected, not bothered.

There will be 50 students in a class so around 100 responsible parents, but if the teacher makes mistakes in Notes or teaching, nobody will question. Why should I? Why not others? Why should I be the problematic parent?

Where is India heading with this kind of immunity? When does our hair stand straight and hand is ready to give a punch? when will we pick up the phone and dial 100 as soon as we see something wrong?

Is it because of this urban lifestyle that our bodies have become so weak that they no more hold any hot blood??

will Dabur help us? To be not immune to these things??

Should we laugh at this or cry??

State of India’s Media

Do you work for any ‘Media’. Do you agree or disagree? Please post your comments.

eksparsh's avatarEk Sparsh

A documentary about the state of our media. Be it the elections, the Indian Premier League (IPL), stock markets, mutual funds, entertainment, or the daily news bulletin.  Can we hold a mirror to the glass buildings and ivory towers?

Editorial content is decided by marketing executives. Politicians/ political parties & industrialists have become owners or major shareholders, and owners have become editors. The amount of dedication and truthfulness – basically an urge to bring about positive changes through investigative journalism has somehow disappeared.  Even the reasons of getting into journalism have changed. And all of this has happened with active support from the top media houses – who now concentrate more on the business of news rather than news.

No pillar is more important in a democracy than the fourth estate. Currently,  integrity standards of our news media seem appalling. However, despite…

Balanced Education?

Until recently we did not even bother about balanced diet, but now it has become a must. Now looks like we need to look at balanced parenting, balanced education, so on and so forth.

You might have come across the word ‘Alternate education’ where in the children can choose what they want to learn and just learn that. No regular classrooms, no specific syllabus, no restriction on age. The motto there is ‘when you learn something which you love to learn, and explore all needed resources and learn the subject. The understanding is deeper, and you will never forget what you learnt’. Who will not agree to this?  I never did any course in Hindi, but still I learnt it. My Hindi Teacher was Dooradarshan. Now I am teaching Hindi!!

But it is not as easy as said. I do not know of such alternate education schools in Hyderabad. At the most we can put our kids in such schools which gives more importance to all round development of the kid. At least those schools which would like to bring out the creativity in the child.

But again, not every child will become sachin tendulkar or Abraham Lincoln. Sakuntala Devi did not have formal education, but that does not mean I can let my child free of formal education and wait for wonders to happen!!

But at the same time when I see that she loves skating, swimming and such physical activities like anything. She was so much fallen in love with skating that she would get up at 4’o clock at the age of 5 to attend skating class at 5.45am. That was in Summer holidays. Then school started, she has to leave to school at 7.45am, hence cannot make her get up early morning, attend skating classes and then go to school.

Even though the school does offer skating and swimming, hardly a child will do 5-10 minutes of swimming in a week!! Two periods, all time is spent in changing dress, reaching swimming pool etc.

They do not get enough time to finish their breakfast and lunch. Hence they do not get the nutrition required. This is the complaint of all parents. Still the school authorities will not increase time duration for lunch and breakfast!

So why send them to school? Can’t we teach them English, Hindi, and the mother toungue at home? Can teach her maths. Morning to Evening if she is at home, she can even have proper food, sleep and lot of learning!!

The school gives them few things which we cannot give at home, like friends, Teachers, Competition, Descipline etc.  But again I feel the timings 8.30 am to 4pm is made for the convenience of working parents. they can drop kids to school and go to their office. Otherwise I feel the School timings we had 10 am to 5pm was best.

All the time they are busy doing the homework given in class, so when will they read comics? when will they do the drawing they want to do? when can she enjoy the morning sunshine on terrace? Only on sat and Sunday?

Airtel ads 2013

Look at these new airtel ads, even though they convey the message even the poor people can get access to internet with Airtel, I did not like the tone with which the ads are made.

In the facebook friend ad, the lift operator is asking the other person ‘ Sir kya aap mere friend banoge’? which means will you become my friend?

This lift operator is so humble and hesitant. The other guy gives a look as if he is looking down upon him. Then finally agrees as if doing a favor. Why should the lift operator make friendship with these guys who are so proud about themselves!! Airtel thinks all those educated and working people who have access to net behave like this.

In the next ad – The rain and the E-mail.

The working woman in western wear is not able to connect to net, and the other lady in Indian attire, gives her a helping hand. This lady in western wear responds in a mocking tone that she has to send an e-mail, which could not be there in other person’s mobile. But the lady says ‘My mobile has e-mail facility’ . Then this lady sits next to her and sends the e-mail.

Even this ad portrays the educated and working woman as somebody who looks down upon others who are not so privileged.

All of us fall into the category of people with internet facility and I do not think majority of us would behave like the way as shown in the ads. The same message could have been given in a more positive way, buy showing positive emotions and behavior.

what is your take on this?

Contests to give money or make money?

freshers

Freshersworld.com has come up with the ad participate and win 2 lakhs. It is calling it as Talent Search 2013, but you need to pay 599/- rupees to participate in that!!! Thus even with 333 people registering they will get 2 Lakh.

Also it claims that top 100 will get job. If it is having the genuine thought of employing the talented people, there is no need to collect money from them. It says it is collecting 599/- to make sure only interested candidates participate!

If you are talented you will definitely get a job without paying money to any Tom, Dick or Harry… so please do not fall into these traps.

I had great respect for freshers world for the hard work they had put to bring all updates about job openings in their website, they should not have got into this means to make money.

Smell can Make or Break a relationship!!

anagha in rain IMG_5361

These days with so much pollution around, having a sharp nose seems to be more of a bane than boon. But nevertheless good smell can make you happy, nostalgic, heal your mind and body. The bad smell can annoy you, spoil your mood and damage your relationship!!

Let me start with the good ones.

The best smell which gives me the most happiness is the smell that comes from mud when first drops of rain fall on it. You cannot experience this smell if it is raining every day. Either it should be first rain of the season, or when it rains during one or two days in summer. Once the soil is wet, we no longer get the privilege to feel that smell, the aroma of Mud when kissed by first drops of rain.

The smell of wet mud during the first rain takes me through different feelings. You feel happy that finally the rain has arrived. Especially in the summer heat of Hyderabad, first rain is definitely nothing less than God. We can really feel Rain as god and thank him with full heart for showering his blessings on us!

It makes me feel fresh, feel like sitting outside watch the rain and inhale the smell as much as I can. It takes me back to the college days in Mysore. I loved rain so much that I prefer to walk in the rain. I used to make the pretext of washing terrace and used to carry broom to the terrace and sweep the terrace, as I wanted to get wet in rain. The smell of rain combined with the smell of leaves and trees takes me to my Grand parents house in Somavarasanthe village of Shimoga.

So when it rains heavily the smell of mud is no longer there, but now, if you smell anything like samosa or green chilli bajji, then? Blessed are the ones who have some one to make some Pakoda and coffee when it is raining outside! After marriage, all this privilege has vanished, I have to go to kitchen and make it, 😦

Another smell I love is the Mysore Sandal Soap. I must have used this soap for at least fifteen years since my birth. After that I had changed to Ponds soap, which is not available now. Now rarely I do buy Mysore Sandal soap, and it takes me back to child hood, Mysore and Shimoga 🙂

mallige jade

Then the Jasmines, especially the ‘Mysore mallige’ ( mallige means jasmine) ; the smell of jasmine really makes me feel fresh, gives a festive mood. Even though we used to decorate our plats with the jasmines on regular basis, they were a must on Festivals. They are a must on festivals. So I really miss my long plat as I am not able to wear long maala ( garland) of jasmine on my hair these days.

The smell of Sooji mallige makes me remember my best friend Smitha. They had that creeper in their house, and during season she regularly wore that. It really had strong smell. I would get head ache if I wore it for full day. The creeper had touched their terrace, so we had to get onto their terrace from neighbor’s terrace and pluck the flowers.

Smell of my mother’s saree, smell of sister’s cream, smell of brother’s perfume, each one is unique!! Now smell of husband’s T – Shirts or daughter’s hair!!!!!

I can smell when milk boils, so I immediately go and switch off the stove, but my husband cannot! Sometimes each and every bad smell is so annoying, and if your partner is not able to feel it, it is all the more annoying!! why so?

Sometimes I feel the power to smell has made my life hell! Here in Nizampet Hyderabad, sometimes the smell coming from factories is so bad, I keep my windows shut all the time. Early mornings I go for walk on terrace and due to smell I come home, close the doors and sit inside!!  I find it difficult to travel in Train because of the bad smell of either Toilets or the bad smell in stations, when train stops for hours.

Some times how ever close a person be, if he/ she does not smell good. If their house does not smell good, I find it very difficult to talk to them, or visit their home… Thus a sensitive nose might make you no so social person!!

And to make sure you do not lose friends and visitors because of this reason, keep a perfume or an ambipur. These days I keep a perfume spray handy so that when ever I feel bad smell I can just spray it.

My mother often used Amrutanjan while travelling to get rid of bad smells!! She even kept a hand kerchief with lot of ponds powder poured into it and folded!

Smell of asafoetida ( Ingu) sprayed on hot oil while seasoning makes me hungry!!

Well there is so much to smell……

Thanks to Indiblogger and Ambipur for giving this topic; Looks like I will come back and write more on this. Do check the link
www.facebook.com/AmbiPurIndia to make your house smell good.

Silver Oaks, Miyapur, Hyderabad

IMG_2477IMG_2490IMG_2480

My daughter did her Nursery, PP1 and PP2 from Bachpan a Play school, Nizampet.  But I was constantly in search for the best school for her. Every year I used to visit all the schools around us, inquire about academics, fee structure, student teacher ratio etc. But I was not satisfied with the replies I got.  Most of the schools would tell about fee structure first and want to continue only after we accept that. They didn’t even understand there are parents for whom fee structure is not the concern.

You must have read my other posts where in I compiled reviews on various schools and posted here.  Finally I thought Silver Oaks would be the best school for my kid and I took the application form in Dec, 2012. She had a test in December and by January the results were out and she was selected. I think we were done with the admission process by January end.

But even then I was tensed, I was wondering whether we made the right decision. Admission fee was 50k and Annual fee including transportation comes to around 80k. What if my daughter is not happy with the school. What if she asks me to put her in other school? So on and so forth.  But all my tension disappeared on day one itself. As my daughter came from school happily. I met her class teacher when I went to hand over the books. Her teacher Ms.Ramya is too good.

From day one my daughter Anagha started speaking about being independent, to learn new things everyday and so many such talks. Initially before the school started when she realised that her old friends have joined other schools, she was asking me to put her in other school, but now she says ‘ Please dont change my school, I want to study in Silver Oaks. This is the best school’.

Believe it or not she even said ‘ Thank you ma, thank you pa, for putting me in such a good school’!!

I just want to  thank the Director, Principal, Teachers and all the staff for making her feel so good at school and for imbibing values, beliefs, good habits and leadership skills in the children from such an early age.

Jungle the Restaurant Nizampet

Aug 9th, 2013

Hi,

We visited Jungle the Restaurant at Nizampet Village yesterday at 10 PM.

The food was good. We had ordered Tandoori Roti and Paneer Kofta.

They took some 15- 20 minutes.

We had ordered to make it less spicy and the instruction was followed.

The ambiance was good with artificial forest around. Kids love it. I did not like it much, as it did not have much lighting. Or I do not like the pub like environment in family hotels.

But what annoyed us was constant shoutings from Kitchen. Since the ordered food and till the time we left, the quarrel among employees was going on in Kitchen and it was so audible that all of us could hear in the Dining area.

We just felt like leaving after main course and did not want to order anything more.

Price was reasonable for 5 Roti and one Paneer kofta the bill amount was 220/-.

Aug 14th, 2013

Second time we visited there were more negative experience.

We ordered less spicy, without green chilli Paneer, but we got spicy, with green chilly curry.

In first visit we had asked for finger bowl and we were asked to use wash basin. We thought its ok, as it was already 10.45 pm and looked like the restaurant was about close.

But second time we visited at afternoon, and saw finger bowl being given to other customer, so after our lunch asked for finger bowl, he said use wash basin! Then we asked why? Then another person intervened and asked him to give finger bowl. But he gave finger bowl with cold water!!

Why people invest so much if they cannot monitor and guide the employees?
