Organic vegetables by biodegradable waste

news worth sharing

Did you know that there is a large kitchen garden in Adyar that is growing organic vegetables for the Cancer Institute Kitchens? And what’s more, this garden has been built of organic waste generated by the neighbourhood.

Since February 2013, Kavitha Ramakrishnan, Archana Meiyappan, Priya Gopalen, Anita Balasubramaniam and Shakuntala Devulapally, volunteers with reStore Gardens, have been working on converting the hard rocky ground behind the Mahesh Memorial Pediatric ward at the Cancer Institute (CI), Gandhi Nagar, into a working organic garden.

The group also conducts workshops on urban permaculture and composting. For more details, mail restoregardens @gmail.com or call Priya at 8939932088 or Kavitha at 9500044897.

To celebrate and recognise World Kitchen Garden Day, the group is organising a workshop on 30 August from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
